The nature and content of the concept of “tolerance”.

Abstract

On the basis of scientific approaches analysis the nature and content of “tolerance” have been dwelt upon. In historical terms, the term “tolerance” comes from the ban on religious discrimination to which later was added the ban on ethnic discrimination. Nowadays, the term is more often used to refer to a wide range of tolerant attitudes to social groups or political parties or ideas that many consider unacceptable; loyalty in assessing the actions and behavior of other people, readiness for understanding and cooperation in addressing issues of interpersonal, group and international cooperation. The effectiveness of tolerance depends on the chosen by society form of the predominant conscience: mythological, religious, secular, or scientific and social one. The phenomenon of tolerance is organically linked to the communicative processes which functions are the basis for understanding the essence of the category of “communicative tolerance” as a personal quality.
