Cultural and educational potential of Bohdan Vesolovskyi’s instrumental works
Abstract
The article highlights the educational aspect of the piano pieces by Bohdan Vesolovskyi, the prominent composer of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada. The instrumental works of the composer were little known to his contemporaries due to the difficult social and political circumstances of the long-lasting Soviet regime domination in Ukraine. The author examines the didactic and artistic side of a number of piano works by B.Vesolovskyi. Based on the adopted language and stylistic elements of the Western entertaining music, the composer's instrumental pieces received original ethno-cultural adaptation, and popular genres obtained their Ukrainian equivalent, that enabled them to perform an important artistic and educational function in educating future teachers.
