APPLICATION OF THE TREBUCHETT MECHANISM FOR DELIVERY OF FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENTS IN A COLLAPSIBLE CONTAINER

Abstract

The considered new scheme for the delivery of substances to the fire zone. The technology of transporting substances is based on the mechanical operation of throwing. To do this, the substance (fire extinguishing powder) is placed in a hard shell - a special container. Upon delivery to the fire site, the container should collapse and release a substance that will assist in extinguishing the fire. The current remote delivery method uses a cylindrical container. And as a launcher, an air gun is used. The complexity of this technology of remote delivery of a substance lies in the fact that in order to ensure the stability of movement during the flight, the cylinder must rotate around its axis. The starting impulse for such rotation when the cylinder passes through the muzzle of an air gun is supplied by a stream of compressed air, which is associated with the difficulties of its switching and operation.

Therefore, it became necessary to develop other "non-cannon" throwing methods for delivering fire extinguishing agents to the fire zone. This paper presents a method created on the basis of throwing installations such as trebuchet mechanisms. Such installations have been known since ancient times and whose actions can be modernized with modern technical means.

To use the modernized trebuchet mechanisms in practice, it is necessary to develop a container design, under the shell of which a fire extinguishing agent will be placed. It should be taken into account that the indicated shell design problem will combine solutions of several problems with mutually contradictory requirements. First, the design of the container must be strong and withstand the starting forces (which are similar to explosive ones), as well as the stresses of different phases of the flight. Secondly, the design must ensure its instantaneous destruction after the delivery of the cargo to the fire zone. And, thirdly, the design of the container should provide a convenient technology for filling its container with fire extinguishing agents. The solution to this problem is proposed to be implemented using polyhedral bodies of the dodecahedron type.
