Abstract

The article is devoted to one of the urgent issues of pedagogical research, namely the integration of methods of mathematical statistics into the process of pedagogical diagnostics of the level of health-preserving competence of future specialists studying at domestic higher education institutions. It clarifies the essence of the concepts of “competence,” “health-preserving competence,” “pedagogical diagnostics,” and “methods of mathematical statistics.” Special attention is paid to the methods of mathematical statistics, in particular descriptive statistics, comparative, correlation, and regression analysis. The study identifies the stages of pedagogical research at which methods of mathematical statistics are applied, such as data collection (diagnostics), initial processing of results, comparison and analysis, identification of relationships and patterns, and interpretation and generalization of results. It has been established that the main application of mathematical statistics methods in pedagogical research falls on the stages of analysis, comparison, and interpretation of results, while preparatory measures for their effective use are carried out already at the stage of pedagogical diagnostics. Examples of the integration of mathematical statistics during the diagnostics of the level of health-preserving competence of higher education students are presented. The article notes that, using methods of mathematical statistics in pedagogical research, both quantitative and qualitative determination of the levels of healthpreserving competence of students is carried out. It is also emphasized that scholars traditionally distinguish such levels as high, medium, and low.

Key words: higher education students; health-preserving competence; pedagogical diagnostics; methods of mathematical statistics; levels of health-preserving competence formation.
