The article considers important aspects of the relationship between tolerance and
the formation of national identity in senior preschool children in the conditions of
modern Ukrainian society. The role of tolerance in the formation of a positive
attitude of children to their native culture, language, traditions, values and the main
aspects of this process is considered. The article highlights the role of tolerance in
the process of forming the national identity of senior preschool children. An
interpretation of the meaning of the terms «tolerance», «national identity» is
provided. The main developments of foreign and domestic scientists on the
investigated problem are presented. The main legislative documents of Ukraine,
which emphasize the education of tolerance and the formation of national identity
in children of senior preschool age, are analyzed. It is emphasized that tolerance
is important in the context of nationality and the development of Ukrainian
democratic society.
In the context of the formation of national identity in senior preschool children,
tolerance opens the door to studying and understanding the diversity of cultures,
traditions, languages and histories; helps children to perceive and respect their
own national heritage, as well as to understand and accept diversity in the
worldview and life views of others; fosters openness to communication in children,
promotes the development of empathy and intercultural dialogue; forms in them a
sense of dignity, equality and mutual respect, which are integral components of
national identity. Thus, tolerance is a key element in building a harmonious and
peaceful society where diversity is seen as an asset rather than a threat.
