Formation of Sociocultural Competence of Higher Education Students in the Process of Studying a Foreign Language and Literature
Abstract
The article examines the formation of sociocultural competence among higher education students in the process of studying a foreign language and literature. The concept of “sociocultural competence” is analyzed and summarized, and its components are outlined (country studies, linguistic and cultural studies, sociolinguistic, socio[1]psychological, and cultural aspects). The processes through which sociocultural competence is formed and developed are identified. Examples of tasks that foster sociocultural competence in foreign language and literature classes are provided; these tasks reveal the literary characteristics of works, reflect the cultural and historical context, and promote the development of critical thinking and the analysis of sociocultural phenomena. The role of intercultural communication in the process of learning a foreign language and literature is defined, emphasizing the importance of using authentic materials that reflect the realities of native speakers’ lives.
