Application of methods for developing critical thinking in primary education
Abstract
The article discusses the significance and effectiveness of
applying critical thinking methods in the learning process of
elementary school students. Critical thinking is an essential
component of children's intellectual development, as it helps in
fostering skills such as analysis, evaluation, problem-solving, and
making well-grounded decisions. In the context of modern
education, where the flow of information is immense, the ability to
critically assess received information becomes especially
significant. The article highlights that teaching critical thinking
from the very beginning of school education contributes to the
development of important cognitive skills, such as logical thinking,
independent decision-making, and forming one's own opinions.
The article emphasizes the necessity of integrating critical
thinking methods into the primary education curriculum, which
allows the development of important competencies in children for
their further learning and life. It discusses the main methods that
can be used in elementary schools to foster critical thinking,
including problem-based learning, organizing discussions, role
playing games, using interactive exercises, and analyzing literary
works. Special attention is also given to the role of the teacher in
this process, who should act as a mentor, supporting an active
and independent approach to learning for the students.
The article notes that the application of such methods not only
helps improve students' academic achievements but also aids in
developing important life skills, such as the ability to critically
analyze situations, solve problems effectively, and be open to
new ideas. The article concludes that to achieve the best results
in implementing critical thinking in elementary schools, it is
necessary to consider the age characteristics of children, their
intellectual level, and create a supportive environment for the
development of these important skills.
