Formation of academic writing skills as a means of combating academic dishonesty
Abstract
The article is dedicated to analyzing the importance of developing academic writing
skills as a means of combating academic dishonesty in the context of the modern
education system in Ukraine. The essence of academic integrity and its role in forming
a high-quality educational environment that fosters the development of critical thinking,
independence, and responsibility in students is discussed.
The article highlights the issue of violations of ethical norms in scientific activities,
particularly phenomena such as plagiarism, data fabrication and falsification, improper
use of others' ideas, and other forms of academic dishonesty. The main causes of
these issues are analyzed, including insufficient preparation of students in academic
writing, lack of skills in working with sources, and misunderstanding of proper citation
principles.
Special attention is given to methods and strategies for developing academic writing,
which contribute to increasing students' independence when performing scientific and
educational tasks. Recommendations are provided for improving educational
programs, integrating academic writing courses into the curriculum, implementing
modern digital tools for plagiarism checking, and creating a favorable environment for
discussing ethical aspects of academic work. The article explores how enhancing
academic writing abilities can serve as a key strategy in promoting academic honesty
and fostering a culture of integrity, critical thinking, and responsibility within Ukraine's
education system.
The authors emphasize the importance of adhering to principles of academic integrity,
independently completing assignments, correctly citing sources, and respecting
copyright. Particular attention is paid to developing skills in logical and structured
writing, which are essential for further scientific work, enhancing critical analysis of
information, and ensuring the high quality of education.
