AUTOMATION OF THE FORMATION PROCESS OF COMPOSITE CURVED SURFACES IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROBLEMS

Abstract

The paper presents the practical application of the static-geometric method of forming composite curved surfaces for the design of coatings in architecture. The process of automated formation of a curved surface, consisting of several portions smoothly joined together, is considered.

The results of the studies are implemented in the SurfaceUnion program, which allows simulating discrete frames of composite curved surfaces. Static-geometric method is used to form similar discrete frames of surfaces. The frame is formed by a vertical uniform-piece forming load applied to each mesh node.

You imagine the shape of the future surface and define the original data yourself. These include: grid spacing and the number of steps along the coordinate axes; coordinates of nodes contour's; separate coordinates of internal nodes. After the parametric analysis is performed, the user of the system starts to form the boundaries of portions of surfaces by specifying the number of portions. The prerequisite is that the number of portions of surfaces must be equal to the number of specified coordinates of internal nodes. The conditions of smooth docking of portions of surfaces must be taken into account. For nodes at the portion boundary, the equilibrium equations are replaced by equations describing smooth docking conditions.

After the performed calculations, the system automatically forms a discrete frame of a smooth composite curved surface on the screen. The model file specifies the coordinates of all nodes of the discrete frame.

The created software allows to model discrete frames of composite curved surfaces and to search for optimal shape of coatings of buildings and structures in interactive mode.
